San Bartolomé celebrated this Saturday a massive popular pilgrimage on the occasion of the celebration of the patron saint festivities of the municipality, one of the most anticipated days within the program organized by the City Council through the Department of Festivities.
Music, tradition, folklore, and a good atmosphere stood out in this pilgrimage walk that started at 7:00 p.m. from the municipal soccer field where neighbors welcomed all the participants dressed in typical and traditional clothing on a pilgrimage in which there was no shortage of carts and parrandas.
The procession advanced along Sereno, Rubicón, Calderetas, and Párroco San Martín streets, until it reached León y Castillo Square, where hundreds of people gathered to experience this popular expression of coexistence and tradition up close. Throughout the journey, there were displays of folklore, popular dances, and the distribution of typical products, in an atmosphere of hospitality that characterized the day.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, was satisfied and proud of the great success of this popular event. “The pilgrimage is the result of many years of history. It is a very accessible celebration in which the town generously welcomes those who visit us from other municipalities.”
For the government team, it is a source of pride to see that “more and more people are joining each year, attracted by the good atmosphere and honesty in the celebration of this simple and heartfelt festival, where the great protagonists are the residents of San Bartolomé who feel that expectations are being met.”
For her part, the Councilor for Festivities, Estefanía Luzardo, stressed the importance of passing these customs on to new generations. “Over time, some traditions are lost, but the pilgrimage reminds us of the need to keep them alive and transmit them. This year we have once again seen that both in this pilgrimage walk and in the rest of the activities there has been a high participation of young people, which gives us the security that our cultural heritage is still very much alive and with a future.”
Rubén Valiente and Luisa Rodríguez, chosen as Romero and Romera
Isas, folías, and typical products added flavor, color, and rhythm throughout the pilgrimage route that culminated in León y Castillo Square, a space where the election of the Romero and Romera of the patron saint festivities of San Bartolomé was held, a distinction that this year went to Rubén Valiente and Luisa Rodríguez, for representing with the greatest rigor the typical clothing and traditional attitude that contribute to the maintenance and dissemination of our festivals.
The popular pilgrimage was only the beginning of the evening, as the night continued with the expected Romero Dance, enlivened by the performances of Lanzarote Swing and Borrón y Cuenta Nueva, and the popular verbena in the Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente park, where the music of Vocal Force, Rika Banda, and DJ Javi Fajardo brought an end to a festive night.
The San Bartolomé City Council thanks all the people, groups, associations, security forces, and emergency and civil protection personnel who made it possible for this popular pilgrimage to take place without any type of incident and with total security.
