The historic Convent of Santo Domingo, in La Villa de Teguise, hosted last Sunday at 8:00 PM a musical evening full of feeling, memory, and tradition with the concert "Vuelta al Origen" (Return to Origin), starring the renowned folklorist and singer from Punta del Hidalgo in Tenerife, José Manuel Ramos.

The performance, conceived as a tribute to the people of Punta del Hidalgo, was especially dedicated to all the men and women who, with their effort and love for popular customs, have contributed to keeping the musical and cultural tradition of this corner of northern Tenerife alive.

José Manuel Ramos, an artist with a broad career and deep folkloric roots, comes from a family closely linked to Canarian music. Heir to a distinguished lineage of folklorists, he carries in his blood the legacy of figures such as his great-uncle Sebastián Ramos, his grandfather Manuel, and his mother, the unforgettable Olga Ramos, fundamental references of Canarian popular music.

For this very special occasion, the artist was accompanied by one of the great female voices of the Canary Archipelago, Candelaria González, whose performance captivated the audience from the first notes. Alongside them, an extraordinary group of musicians brought brilliance and sensitivity to the night; Davinia Pérez on violin, Víctor Manuel González on guitar, Jeremías Martín on accordion, Moisés García on double bass, and Lucas Rojas on timple.

"Vuelta al Origen" was much more than a concert. It became an authentic journey through the collective memory of Punta del Hidalgo, where music and history walked hand in hand. Between songs, José Manuel Ramos shared with the attendees valuable stories about the life, customs, and traditions of the men and women of this fishing town, transmitting historical knowledge that further enriched each performance.

The research work carried out by the singer has made it possible to rescue old couplets and practically forgotten melodies, the result of arduous compilation work supported by the scarce existing phonotheque from the late fifties. Thanks to technological advances, many of those recordings have been recovered, returning a musical heritage of enormous cultural value to the present.

The audience was able to enjoy masterful interpretations of such emblematic pieces as Folías, Mazurca, El canto del Güeyero, Tajaraste del Niño, Arrorró, and Malagueñas, among others, culminating the night with exciting Seguidillas and Saltonas that earned prolonged applause from the attendees.

The "Vuelta al Origen" project also includes a CD recording accompanied by a complete booklet that recounts the history of the men and women of Punta del Hidalgo, a valuable document that enriches the cultural heritage of the Canary Islands thanks to the meticulous research work carried out by José Manuel Ramos.

The concert also had the privilege of being held in one of the cultural spaces most appreciated by musicians and singers, the Convent of Santo Domingo, recognized for the elegance of its hall and for an acoustics that allows every note to reach the audience with absolute clarity.

The institution of the Teguise City Council was represented by the Councilor for Culture, Andoni Machín.

At the end of the performance, the audience bid farewell to the musicians and soloists with a long standing ovation and resounding applause that evidenced the emotion experienced throughout the evening.

"Vuelta al Origen" was not just a concert; it was an encounter with the memory, identity, and roots of the Canary Islands. A magical night that undoubtedly left a mark on all those present.
