The southern town of Playa Blanca celebrated its Big Day this Tuesday with applause and cheers for the Virgen del Carmen, in the land procession through the town's central streets, very marked by the emotion of faithful and companions dedicated to the figure of the patron saint under the chords of the Yaiza Municipal Band, which led the tour. Also present were members of the Yaiza Municipal Corporation and the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort.
Emotion of the parishioners who accompanied the pilgrimage, tears in addition to those who took turns carrying the figure of the Virgin on their shoulders, including young and veteran fishermen from Playa Blanca, as well as neighbors from the town of a lifetime, and tears from the musicians who harmonized their talent with the feeling of religiosity present in the afternoon of the main day of Playa Blanca.
The afternoon began in the Plaza del Carmen with the mass presided over by the parish priest of Yaiza, Jonathan Almeida, who invited the attendance to raise a prayer for the town of Playa Blanca, all its neighbors and the youngest, also remembering the deceased and the foreign families who have come to the south of Lanzarote to earn a living.
The priest focused the message of the homily on the devastating consequences of wars and the value of gratitude in an increasingly individualistic and less supportive global society.
The most exciting moment of the afternoon was the stop that the pilgrimage made in front of a two-story building to show the Virgin and greet a couple of neighbors who, due to family health problems, could not go down to participate in the procession.
The Virgin returned to the church, received by the interpretation of the Yaiza Vocal Group that offered its heartfelt recital. The music then moved to the stage in the square where the performance of the Calicanto Group and the Encuentro de Música Popular Parranda Janubio took place.
The Yaiza City Council invites the people of Lanzarote to participate in these last festive days in Playa Blanca by consulting the program published on the cover of yaiza.es The maritime procession will be next Sunday, July 21 at noon.
