The Janubio band, led by Clotildo Martín, celebrates 40 years of musical career in Las Breñas, the quiet town that saw it born in 1986

Las Breñas has a busy festive program from this Thursday, June 11, to Sunday, June 21, its big day. The town is already immersed in the patron saint celebrations of San Luis Gonzaga which begin this week with traditional games tournaments and a variety of activities, to then unfold its music, sports, and humor offerings planned in the calendar published on the municipal website.

One of the highlights of Las Breñas is the Encuentro Folklórico Víctor Fernández Gopar (1844 – 1920), which each year commemorates the indelible figure of ‘El Salinero’, a master in composing verses and a master in the construction and artisanal exploitation of salt flats.

On Friday the 19th, the host parranda Janubio, the group Acatife, and the young southern soloist Elieser Betancort will perform. After the encounter, there will be dancing with the groups Malpeis and Son de Norte.

The parranda Janubio, led by Clotildo Martín, celebrates 40 years of musical career in Las Breñas, the quiet town where it was born in 1986. Janubio's musical repertoire is basically traditional Canarian music, but it also performs songs from other towns and enriches the local folklore with lyrics by sons of Yaiza, such as the poets Aquilino García (R.I.P.), Jaime Quesada, and, of course, Víctor Fernández Gopar.

The religious service and procession in honor of the patron saint will be on Sunday, June 21, starting at 7:00 PM. The music of the Agrupación Vocal de Yaiza will accompany the celebration in the church, while the Municipal Band and the Agrupación Folklórica Rubicón will do so in the street. The former during the pilgrimage and Rubicón upon the arrival of the procession in front of the cultural center. The Councilor for Festivities of Yaiza, Daniel Medina, invites the people of Lanzarote to visit and enjoy Las Breñas.
