The Insular Library, attached to the Education Department of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, headed by councilor Ascensión Toledo, has carried out an expansion and update of its bibliographic collection with a specific reinforcement of the youth and children's sections. The action aims to adapt the collections to the current interests of the younger population and to consolidate the Library as a space of cultural and educational reference on the island.

The catalog renewal has involved the incorporation of new young adult literature titles, with special attention to high-demand genres such as graphic novels, manga, and comics, alongside other contemporary young adult fiction offerings. In parallel, the children's collection has been significantly strengthened, expanding the range of illustrated albums, books for early readers, adapted works, and a selection of current stories tailored to different developmental stages.

Between December and January, the Insular Library incorporated around 100 new comic and manga titles and 140 children's and young adult literature titles, an acquisition that represented an investment of nearly 4,000 euros, entirely dedicated to improving the bibliographic collection for the younger population

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, points out that this update responds to a clear plan so that public resources in cultural matters translate into useful, current, and accessible services, especially for children and youth, who are key to building stable reading habits.

For her part, the Minister of Education, Ascensión Toledo, explains that "the expansion of the fund has been carried out based on criteria of editorial quality, thematic diversity, and relevance, incorporating formats and genres that are now part of the real reading habits of children and adolescents."

This initiative is part of a strategy to promote reading from an early age and support reading habits during adolescence, with the aim of facilitating equal access to culture and adapting library services to new reading realities.

The new funds are already available for consultation and loan and will be progressively integrated into the programming and reading promotion activities carried out by the Insular Library of the Cabildo de Lanzarote.
