Lanzarote concludes the program of the thirty-fifth edition of the Insular Craft Fair and the Fiestas de los Dolores 2024 in Mancha Blanca, after an intense week with a wide range of activities for all audiences.
This year, nearly 70,000 people have visited the Fair to learn about the work of more than 120 artisans from all over the Canary Islands and international guests from the Azores, Madeira and Cape Verde, who helped to highlight the value of multiculturalism and tradition that unites these Atlantic territories.
Thus, the different stands showed numerous products or crafts such as pottery, ceramics, carpentry, jewelry, basketry, among others. The meeting stood out for the high quality and originality of the pieces presented, as well as for the incorporation of new proposals that merge traditional techniques with more contemporary designs.
Also, during the fair there were numerous activities such as workshops, talks, exhibitions and musical performances, while the Patio del Enyesque also hosted several stands with typical gastronomy.
The Councilor for Crafts, Aroa Revelo, wanted to thank the great reception that this 35th edition of the Craft Fair has had, one of the most popular in recent years. "It has been a pleasure to see so many people gather in Mancha Blanca to appreciate the work that defines our identity and our culture," said the councilor, who stressed that "this year the Craft Fair has also increased its sales compared to other editions, with the palm hat being one of the most sought after and sold handicraft products."
For his part, the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, stressed the importance of keeping alive the artisanal and cultural traditions of Lanzarote. "This very important event, in which the seven island councils also participate, has been consolidated as one of the most important fairs in the Canary Islands, becoming a unique space to show the talent and island creativity, as well as an opportunity to reinforce our identity," he said.
Award for the best stand
During the final day of this Lanzarote Craft Fair, last Sunday the award for the best stand was presented, which went to Miguel Clavijo Robayna, a traditional potter from Mala, in the municipality of Haría. The awarded craftsman received a basket of selected products from our land.
