'Los Corujo' and Pasión Vega in the Los Corujos show in Jameos del Agua

'Los Corujo', an original idea by Emiliano Suárez, was presented last Monday night on the stage of the Los Jameos del Agua Auditorium. For this staging they had nothing more and nothing less than the special collaboration of the singer Pasión Vega, an artist with an impressive professional career crowned with many recognitions and possessor of the Gold Medals of Andalusia and that of Málaga, awarded by the Diputación de Málaga and the Golden Microphone.

Ciro and Pancho, accompanied by four good musician friends, Acorán Ramos on bass, José Vicente Pérez on timple, Adrián Niz on guitar and Genaro Pérez on percussion, formed a parranda, infecting the audience who were very attentive to their stories and anecdotes. Meanwhile, between airs of isas, folías, seguidillas and malagueñas that they were telling, the brothers enjoyed a good Lanzarote malvasía and a tasty goat cheese.

Ciro and Pancho have records that allow them to recite and sing all the genres that are appreciated. Through an improvised canteen on stage, between family stories and anecdotes, they intertwined Canarian song with Venezuelan song. A music that they had heard their father and uncles sing at the same time that they recited the verses of Maestro Salinero Víctor Fernández Gopar.

Ciro and Pancho were born into a family deeply rooted in Canarian traditions, which came from their father Florián, leaving them a legacy that they now proudly champion. Between glass and glass and some cheese shavings they shared with the public one of the hardest moments experienced by the Corujo Tejera family, they were difficult times in Lanzarote and they emigrated to Venezuela with the hope of returning to the town where they were born: San Bartolomé.

Over the years they adapted to Venezuelan culture, but keeping in mind the Canarian root, which they shared during their stay in the country. They took and upon their return also brought, becoming a journey of Life and Return. The Corujo brothers were so comfortable and supported by the public that they wanted to share their childhood experiences with them. Ciro said that his grandmother Margarita wrote some Endechas, which were later sung by the Rancho de Pascua de San Bartolomé while Pancho explained that the fondness for lyrics was partly inherited from Lola, his maternal great-grandmother, a lover of Zarzuela and Lírica Los Corujo.

Pasión Vega, Ciro and Pancho changed the musical register interpreting great compositions from the other side of the Atlantic such as Gracias a la Vida, Volver, Volver, Recuerdos del Ayer, etc. Los Corujo ended their performance by performing the pasodoble Islas Canarias as a trio, with the public standing and asking them to continue. Immediately afterwards, with parranderos airs, they put the finishing touch to a project that was very popular for the simplicity, closeness and dedication of the three protagonists, Pasión, Ciro, Pancho and the complicity of the musician friends.
