The Malpaís de la Corona Folk Group celebrated the XXII edition of its traditional festival, with the aim of protecting the island's heritage and cultural legacy.

This initiative, which is part of the patron saint festivities in honor of San Juan Bautista 2026, was well received by locals and visitors.

The mayor, Alfredo Villalba, highlighted that “these types of festivals have great symbolic weight, as they promote and preserve our culture and the traditions of Haría and Lanzarote”. He also emphasized that reaching this XXII edition “highlights the effort of an initiative that has always worked to protect popular folklore and keep the legacy of the municipality's inhabitants alive”.

For her part, the Councilor for Social Welfare, Evelia García, underlined the great reception of this XXII edition, pointing out that the festival “has become a unique opportunity to enjoy our cultural customs, in a relaxed atmosphere, which improves every year”. “Seeing all the neighbors dressed in typical clothing and involved in the festivities shows that this gathering not only entertains, but also unites our municipality”, she added.

Attendees were able to enjoy a proposal, under the slogan ‘Against all evil’, which focused on paying homage to the popular beliefs, blessings, prayers, and traditional remedies of the healing women of yesteryear.

One of the most outstanding events within this proposal were the performances by the folk groups Malpaís de la Corona, Estrella y Guía from Gran Canaria, and Agarau from Tenerife, who set the rhythm for an evening marked by traditional Canarian music, through the isa and parrandas.

This gathering stands out for its great cultural relevance, both in the municipality and on the entire island, by highlighting the most deeply rooted traditions of popular knowledge and showcasing local talent through a sonic experience that reinforces the identity and historical legacy of the island population.
