Red Cross celebrates its 150th anniversary in the Canary Islands this year with various initiatives throughout the Archipelago. Thus, the photographic exhibition 150 years of Humanitarian Action in the Canary Islands will be open to the public at the César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport until September 15, after passing through the Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura Airports in the previous months.
The exhibition highlights the path taken by thousands of volunteers and Red Cross staff in the Canary Islands, who over the decades have applied the principle of Humanity that drives the Organization to prevent and alleviate human suffering.
In this sense, the material exhibited shows how the Red Cross has been present in all the important events and emergencies of the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries in the Canary Islands. It has participated in the two great world wars, in the Spanish civil war, or in the return of soldiers from the Cuban war.
It has also been part of the socio-health programs for people without resources during the post-war period, in large forest fires, migratory crises, the COVID-19 pandemic, or volcanic eruptions.
