The Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has presented a complete cultural agenda for the month of March, full of events that promise to delight lovers of art, music, theater and literature. This month Cultura Lanzarote once again offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in the creative and expressive richness of the island.
“We are delighted to present a vibrant cultural agenda, which follows the objective of promoting access to culture and art, providing enriching experiences for all audiences,” said the island's Minister of Culture, Jesús Machín Tavío.
From commemorative exhibitions to fascinating concerts and enriching talks, the March cultural agenda offers something for every taste and preference. For more information on each of the activities, specific dates and to purchase tickets, you can visit the website of the Culture area.
'Warehouse 1974-2024'
In 2024 it will be fifty years since the inauguration of the El Almacén Polidimensional Center, created and promoted by the artist César Manrique in collaboration with Pepe Dámaso, Luis Ibáñez and Yayo Fontes. In addition to the exhibition, numerous activities such as talks, round tables and guided tours are carried out this month.
'Almacén Femme'
Next March 8, El Almacén will become a space for musical convergence, where artistic expression and feminism will meet in a provocative dialogue about the role of women in music. We started this new adventure with the brilliant performance of the Canarian singer Della Du, who will present an alternative fusion. The next day, a new musical event in the luminous setting of Almacén Femme. The singer-songwriter from Tenerife, Pat Llombet, will connect with us through sensitivity, as will Camy Myles, DJ Monterreina, Jela and Alice Wonder on a day full of music created by powerful women.
'Lanzarote Early Music Festival'
The first thematic festival dedicated to early music in Lanzarote kicks off. In the exceptional inaugural concert, the lutenist Evangelina Mascardi will perform the corpus of works for lute from the catalog of Johann Sebastian Bach. The second concert features Juan Carlos de Mulder and Carlos Oramas, who will delight us with Ars Polyphonica: a journey through Renaissance music for lute.
Music
'Liquid Sounds' presents us with a new musical format for Sundays: The Belingueo. The essence of this festival lies in experiences that combine music, wine, gastronomy and a good atmosphere. The inaugural concert will feature La Ganga Calé as the protagonist, with its electrifying sound that embraces salsa, rumba, funk and reggae without complexes.
'Bohemia Lanzarote' and 'Los Sabandeños' join together in a project that fuses diverse traditions, styles and artistic expressions in a commemorative show for International Women's Day, created to celebrate the diversity and significant impact that women have had in the musical field, especially within the rich cultural and artistic context of the Canary Islands.
Theater
The award-winning company Atalaya (National Theater Award 2008) delves into the universe of 'The Miser' by Molière, whose theater deeply criticizes bourgeois hypocrisy and the worst of high society, through comedy and tragicomedy. With eight actors on stage, it is framed among the company's great projects in a musical key.
Ingenious and full of black humor and very vindictive, 'The Rats' talk about social and gender inequalities, climate change, world politics, animal abuse, abuse of power, fake news and mass manipulation. Using comedy, the creators review the world from the perspective of humor and irony.
Oral Narration
On the occasion of International Oral Narration Day, which is celebrated every March 22, the creator Carolina Rueda will offer a show built with intimate but shared stories. Humors, dragons, lovers, mysteries. Words and silences that make your skin crawl. Carolina Rueda is a traveling storyteller: the journey with its demands, its cares, its dangers and its discoveries.
Literature
'Eight writers and eight creators' is a publication that tries to save from oblivion the unforgivable absence of names of women writers in studies on the literary heritage associated with Lanzarote. To this end, the biographies and texts of eight Lanzarote writers are compiled. In turn, these texts have inspired eight collages made by local artists.
Talks
The curator Estefanía Camejo and the plastic artist Arancha Goyeneche will talk about the possibilities and conceptual openings of their work in relation to other artistic disciplines such as installations, photography or video, to address and investigate themes such as nature, time or light.
In 'The kidnapping of art', Emma LLG will reflect on how museum institutions perpetuate the whitewashing, not innocently, of the word kidnapping as a synonym for aggression. In this talk, Emma LLG will analyze several of these works that address the 'kidnapping', contrasting what we see with the story.
Paula Sánchez Perera will talk in 'Saints or whores. The right to evil' about slut-shaming, the act of discrediting, intimidating, humiliating or shaming a woman by calling her a prostitute, which goes far beyond sexuality to become a device for controlling the reputation of women as a whole.
