This Saturday, Eduardo Hernández's book "Barefoot" was presented in La Graciosa, which collects the stories of the women who crossed El Río and climbed the Risco.

An event that took place within the program of the VIII Timple meeting and was held in the social hall of the Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen

The young man from La Graciosa, Eduardo Hernández, Canary Islands Award 2019 and Josele del Pino were revealing some of the contents. It is a book to keep alive the tradition and the stories of the women of La Graciosa who climbed the Risco and went to sell fish to the nearby towns, "always barefoot so as not to spoil the only pair of shoes they had".

Hernández wanted to reflect the "sweat, effort, daily struggle and work of the woman of La Graciosa, a woman who was a father and mother, a woman who fought for her home and her family". Feet full of stories, for climbing a Risco of more than 500 meters high daily, with baskets full of fish on their heads to barter in the towns of northern Lanzarote. "Women who taught us that any woman can work as much or more than a man," he said. The days of shellfish gathering, when they went to collect salt, when they took care of the goats and when they arrived home with the pieces of cloth they had saved, they made the wonderful shirts of La Graciosa or when they assembled the traditional typical hat of the island.

Eduardo Hernández has participated and collaborated from a very young age in many social and cultural events of great social importance, highlighting the initiative "La Graciosa the Eighth Island". Without a doubt, an example and inspiration for the youth of the Canary Islands.

The event ended with the signing of books by the author himself, the councilor Alicia Páez, despite her convalescence, made an appearance to support Eduardo Hernández.
