On the occasion of the San Ginés festivities, the Sociedad Democracia celebrated its 'Traditional Music Recital' last Wednesday night with the collaboration of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the Arrecife City Council.
The Recital began with the performance of the group 'Arnela de Carra' from A. Coruña in Galicia. A group formed in 2009 at the music school of the Cultural Association 'Open Cultura Abierta', from Carral with the commitment to vindicate folklore in its purest and most popular sense. The formation is made up of children to people of advanced age. They are all united by a single common goal: to enjoy playing and singing as Perfecto Feijoo did more than a century ago with the creation of this type of formation. Along with the classic quartet of bagpipes, tambourine and bass drum, they had the contribution of tambourines and voices to recreate pandeiradas, foliadas and muineiras. All of them extracted from traditional Galician music. 'Arnela de Carra occupied the first part of the recital performing the most representative of the traditional music of Galicia receiving in its performance the warm applause of the public.
The second part of the Recital was given by the parranda 'Los Labradores de Lanzarote', created in 2004 with the purpose of spreading the traditional and popular music of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands in general. Currently, the parranda is made up of 20 members, women and men, very animated and always willing to participate in festivals, pilgrimages and parties in general. Its repertoire is very varied and ranges from the most traditional such as folías, isas, seguidilla or malagueñas to which are also joined the most popular songs of the Canarian songbook and also joining some rancheras that the public likes so much wherever they go. 'Los Labradores de Lanzarote' infected the public who did not stop singing and humming the refrains of each of the songs they had chosen for their performance, a performance that was very lively and fun, thus easily earning the applause of the public.
