La Casona de Femés hosts the exhibition 'Arte Yaiza. La Colección'

It is a tribute to the artistic legacy and is commissioned by David Machado

'Arte Yaiza. The Collection' at La Casona de Femés

The La Casona de Femés Art Center hosts, from this Thursday, October 31, 'Arte Yaiza. La Colección', a contemporary art exhibition curated by the plastic artist and cultural manager David Machado, originally from Yaiza. The inauguration, held this Wednesday, October 30 at 6:00 p.m., marks a milestone in the appreciation of the municipality's contemporary artistic heritage. This ambitious project is the result of inter-institutional collaboration between Cultura del Cabildo de Lanzarote and the Department of Culture of the Yaiza City Council.

The Councilor for Culture, Commerce and Consumption of the Yaiza City Council, César Rijo, stressed the importance of rescuing and revaluing the cultural heritage of the municipality. For his part, José Ramón Betancort Mesa, senior cultural technician of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, highlighted the importance of the synergy between institutions and thanked the artists and professionals who have made this initiative possible for their effort and dedication.

In his speech, David Machado emphasized the urgent need to have spaces where the collections of Canarian and Lanzarote art are accessible to the public and have optimal conservation conditions. “In Lanzarote, today, it is not possible to visit a permanent exhibition in a space dedicated to art or culture that shows the history of contemporary art on the island,” Machado said, thus returning the Yaiza collection to the artistic map of Lanzarote.

After the speeches, the attendees enjoyed a guided tour of the exhibition, in which Machado broke down each section and piece, highlighting emblematic figures such as Tayó, the first director of exhibitions of the Casa de la Cultura Benito Pérez Armas between 1987 and 1991, and Carmela García's publishing project on Yaiza from 1999, in addition to her work Ofelia I from 2003. The curator took the opportunity to thank the presence of renowned artists such as the master painter Santiago Alemán and the action artist and teacher Sergio Molina, as well as all the public that filled the Casona.
