The writer and journalist Karina Sainz Borgo visited the Islote de Fermina to raise the curtain on the II edition of the Lanzarote Literature Festival (FDLL). Born in Venezuela and based in our country for almost 20 years, Sainz Borgo offered an honest talk to a dedicated audience that occupied the entire capacity.
The writer assured that letters were "the way to escape from reality in a childhood and adolescence lived in a country with as much political upheaval as Venezuela." Literature was a "way of escaping everything. For me, reading was a way to escape," she confessed during her speech.
She declared herself a fan of Poe and Roald Dahl in equal parts in her adolescence, to move on to reading classics such as Flaubert or Balzac. However, her profound change came when she discovered the giants of the Golden Age of Spanish literature, Lope de Vega, Quevedo and Cervantes, among others. Between laughter and anecdotes, a talk took place in which Sainz Borgo revealed some of the profound personal and social changes she had to face when she arrived in Spain at the age of twenty-three.
The next protagonist will be Paulina Flores
On May 23, the talk with the writer Paulina Flores will be held in the same Islote de Fermina. To attend as an audience, it is only necessary to register on the list of attendees that will be active in the coming days on the festival website.
The festival has an official profile for disseminating news and updates on its Instagram account and a channel on Youtube (@fdllanzarote) where you can see the full talks on demand.
