Javier Reyes Acuña, Beloved Son of Haría

At 9:00 p.m. on the stage set up in the Haría square and with full capacity, Javier Reyes Acuña was received with applause accompanied by his wife and family to occupy a place of honor that was surrounded by the mayor of the Haría city council, Alfredo Villalba, the first Deputy Mayor, Chaxiraxi Niz and the other councilors of the corporation.

The institutional act began with the screening of a video that included a very important part of the professional life of Javier Reyes Acuña from the 1940s to 1970s. What initially began as a hobby ended up becoming a profession and without thinking that each of his portraits would become a very important part of the history of Lanzarote, some of them are included in his book "La Mirada Artesana".

To these thousands of photos collected in that book, we must add the more than 16,000 negatives ceded by Javier Reyes and that have been digitized by the "Memory of Lanzarote" department.

After the screening of the video, the act included the intervention of the mayor, Alfredo Villalba, who highlighted the work carried out for so many years and that allows the new generations to see reflected a very important part of the social and cultural events of the municipality of Haría, La Graciosa and Lanzarote. Then the delivery of the "Accreditation Parchment" took place, in which the prestigious appointment of "Favorite Son of Haría" is reflected, a moment in which Javier Reyes Acuña, very excited and with his hands raised, received the affection of his neighbors with resounding applause.

Then his daughter went on stage who, on behalf of her father, addressed all those present, thanking them for the distinction received from the municipal corporation and the expressions of affection from the neighbors. The first Deputy Mayor, Chaxiraxi Niz, presented a bouquet of flowers to Javier Reyes' wife and with the protocol photo the institutional act of the appointment of Javier Reyes Acuña as Favorite Son of Haría was concluded.

The night continued with the musical performance of Almudena Hernández and Ciro Corujo who were accompanied on guitar by Adrián Niz and José Vicente Pérez on the timple. A one-on-one where Almudena and Ciro performed a very varied repertoire where different musical genres were represented with which the public enjoyed rewarding them with their applause.

After the concert, the public moved to the vicinity of the lot adjacent to the square to witness another of the traditional acts of the magical night of San Juan, such as the lighting of the bonfire and around it the Diablos de Haría and their Fire Dance, a ritual full of symbolism to which is also added the burning of the Facundo. Later, the spectacular burning of fireworks took place where the sky of Haría was illuminated with various colors.
