The House of Volcanoes in Jameos del Agua hosts the exhibition of Traditional Costumes of the 8 Canary Islands from the 18th and 19th centuries and are endorsed by the Sectorial Council of Traditional Clothing of Tenerife.
This is an initiative of the Ministry of Culture of the Canary Islands Government through the Canary Islands Institute of Cultural Development, which has the collaboration of the Cabildo of Lanzarote within the events organized by the Canary Islands executive in the 'Canary Islands Month'. It is framed in the project 'Culture and Roots' that tries to value and promote our rich traditional culture and promote folklore. The exhibition was inaugurated last Friday by the Minister of Culture of the Canary Islands Government Migdalia Machín Tavío.
Visitors will find in the exhibition all the clothing as well as footwear and headdresses. Traditional costumes are those costumes assumed by the people in different groups, areas, populations and even throughout the Region. The costumes exhibited are those with which the people feel identified and those that differentiate one region from another. They have different origins, and may be an evolution of the traditional ones, recreations and even creations of an individual. Traditional costumes are the most used by the general population, those that have almost always been worn to represent one of the islands in any commemoration.
The exhibition can be visited every day from 10 in the morning to 5:15 in the afternoon until Canary Islands Day, admission is free.
