Installation of the Sculpture of Fertility begins

As will be recalled, the windstorm that hit Lanzarote last April caused significant damage to this sculptural ensemble created by César Manrique.

Installation of the Fertility Sculpture

Technicians and operators from the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers and various specialized companies have begun this Thursday the installation work of the first of the modules of the Sculpture of Fertility on the Peña de Tajaste.

The work is an exact reproduction of the one made by César Manrique from water tanks and other elements of disused ships, "unrecoverable" after the windstorm that knocked it down at the end of last April. The assembly, painting and fiberglassing of the new pieces that make it up have been carried out under the supervision of the César Manrique Foundation.

The Entity's counselor, Ángel Vázquez, present today at the Casa Museo del Campesino, explained that with the start of the works "we are beginning to return to the island one of its hallmarks, the tribute of our most illustrious artist to the roots of Lanzarote." Vázquez wanted to thank "the availability, work and sensitivity of our workers and the companies involved so that this project could become a reality in record time."

The installation work of the following modules of the work is scheduled to take place over the next few weeks, as long as weather conditions permit.

Knocked down by the wind

As will be recalled, the windstorm that hit the island last April caused significant damage to the Sculpture of Fertility, the sculptural ensemble created by César Manrique from water tanks and other elements of disused ships.

The sculpture, which rises up to 15 meters high on the Peña de Tajaste, in the Casa Museo del Campesino, is the tribute of the great artist from Lanzarote to the men and women of the island's countryside.
