Haría celebrates the traditional pilgrimage in honor of San Juan

Pilgrims dressed in typical clothing, folk groups and revelers enjoyed the day

Pilgrimage of Haría

Haría once again enjoyed the XXVI Pilgrimage of San Juan Bautista, patron saint of the municipality. With much participation and animation, the neighbors dressed in typical Canarian clothes and musical instruments in hand went out through the main streets of the town.

This year there was much more participation of folk groups, revelers, decorated carts and the odd museum car. As usual, the festive entourage began the tour from the vicinity of the cemetery to the square. The Parranda Marinera Los Buches were in charge of starting the pilgrimage followed by the Guanapay groups of Teguise, Coros y Danzas of Arrecife, Cumbre Nueva of La Palma and Malpaís de La Corona of Haría. Malpaís showed during the tour an artisan piece made with noble woods by the artisan of Haría, Manuel Perdomo consisting of a "Wellhead of a cistern with its bucket and pulley".

Also participating in the tour were the Parranda Los Labradores de Lanzarote, the Municipal School of Folklore of Haría and some friends who also joined in, putting the musical and festive note to a day where at all times the joy and desire of the public to be able to enjoy again one of the most deeply rooted traditions in the Canary Islands was noticeable.

During the tour, the pilgrims tasted homemade products such as roscos, mantecados, bizcochones, mimos, gofio pellets, jareas and good wine, inviting the public who were enjoying the show. In the square next to the portico of the church was located the image of San Juan Bautista to receive the offerings of folk groups and revelers and non-perishable products brought by the pilgrims. The parish priest of Haría Norberto Medina addressed everyone thanking them for their participation. These products will be distributed among the most needy families.

This year, in order to further motivate the neighbors to participate in the pilgrimage, bringing their carts decorated with Canarian motifs, a prize of 350 euros was awarded to the cart of the neighbor Tito y Amigos.

Once the pilgrimage was over, the Baile del Romero began, where the election of the Romera and Romero Mayor took place, titles that fell to Samanta Paz Machín and the young Cayo García Duque. Both received artisan sculptures that were presented to them by the Councilor for Festivities, Alejandro Hernández and the mayoress, Chaxiraxi Niz, who took the opportunity to address the public to thank them and congratulate them for the participation and good development of the pilgrimage.
