This week the winners of the literary contest Letter for a Party, organized by the Tías City Council through the Culture department managed by Pepa González and framed within the Tiñosa festivities in honor of Our Lady of Carmen, were announced: they are Néstor García Martín, who took first prize with the pseudonym Josicúo, María Alonso Hernández, second prize under the pseudonym Amalia Lucerito, and Juana Aroa Pérez, third prize as Araceli.
“For Grandmother”, a heartfelt letter that tells the story of letters that belonged to a fisherman grandfather who promised to return for the Carmen festivities “listening to the tinkling of the stellar nets”, was the winner of this competition.
The awards were presented at the CC El Fondeadero by the mayor, José Juan Cruz, the deputy mayor, Carmen Gloria Rodríguez, and the councilor for Festivities, Miriam Hernández, who congratulated the winners and thanked them for their contribution to the literary activity of the municipality and the rescue of experiences related to the recent past.
The jury, formed by the writers Myriam Ybot, Ignacio Romero and Ico Toledo, valued the ability to move and connect with the reader through epistolary voices. Ybot congratulated the winners “for their precious words dedicated to the town of La Tiñosa and its traditions, which will remain in the collective memory thanks also to their writings”.
After the award ceremony, which consisted of gift vouchers and various decorative details, the trio formed by Cristian Morales, Gabriela Rodríguez and Rebeca Álvarez performed, providing musical accompaniment to a night dedicated to literature and culture.
