Feoflip, as he calls himself on the multiple platforms where he exhibits his works, is an artist from Haría who has been traveling the world for more than twenty years, attending numerous art festivals where he exhibits his works. His last visit was to the city of Pompeii, in Italy, where he was able to participate in the Pompei Street Festival, at the end of September.
The artist was born in the northern municipality of Lanzarote, but soon moved to Tenerife where he grew up. There he studied and was always related to art, "something that was soon difficult to reconcile," he explains to La Voz. The lack of opportunities in the Canary Islands, something he emphasizes still persists, forced him to travel to Barcelona to continue training as a urban artist.
“Urban artists develop due to the lack of opportunities,” says the artist, who emphasizes that although what was initially linked to people “with fewer opportunities” has now become “a contemporary art”. "The artists who have always worked in art galleries, now want to participate and delve into urban art," says Feoflip.
The experience and realization of numerous artistic works have allowed him to participate in various international events and projects around the world, in countries such as Uruguay, Mexico, Paraguay, Brazil, Belgium, Hamburg, Armenia, Greece or Italy. In the Italian peninsula, precisely, the last artistic festival in which he was present took place, participating in the Pompei Street Art in the city of Pompeii, at the end of September.
Feoflip was not the only representation of the Canary Islands in this festival, since another artist from Tenerife was also able to attend. The artist assures that in order to participate it is necessary to pass “a call”, and the presence of two Canarians there reflects “the abundance of urban artists in the archipelago.”
After participating in Pompeii, Feoflip has moved to the island of El Hierro, where he is currently working on creating new works, in order to continue traveling the world and visiting new urban art festivals.
“The chromatic combinations of nature”, the artist's great inspiration
The Hariano artist maintains that “the chromatic combinations of nature” are the main source of inspiration for the creation of his works. However, not all of them have a single theme, as they cover topics as diverse as “the invasion of technology”, or “dreamlike planes.” In addition, he adds that another of the themes he deals with in his murals and graffiti are based on “nature resorting to hybrids and impossible fusions”, in order to establish, according to the Lanzarote native, “new concepts and multiple readings.”
He also emphasizes that his work tries to assemble “the visual language”, until taking it “to the words”. “I try not to limit myself to copying a photo and creating a graphic language with my own signature”, says Feoflip.
All his works can be seen through his multiple platforms, such as his Instagram, Facebook or his web pages: www.feoflip.com , www.basuravisual.blogspot.com or www.isupportstreetart.com/artist/feoflip/ . They reflect some of the murals and graffiti he has made throughout his extensive career, which spans more than 20 years.
