Femés inaugurates ‘Mararía or the enclosed beauty’ (Lanzarote Council)

The Yaiza City Council and the Lanzarote Council have announced that they will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Rafael Arozarena until September. From last Friday, April 21, you can enjoy the exhibition 'Mararía or the beauty locked in time' by the creators Sherezade Morales, Macarena López and Cintia Machín.

The exhibition takes place in the Casona de Femés, a house from the second half of the 18th century, made available to citizens after being rehabilitated.

This celebration commemorates three anniversaries coinciding in 2023: the 100th anniversary of the birth of the writer Rafael Arozarena, author of the novel Mararía inspired by the town of Femés, 50 years since the publication of the literary work and 25 years since the production of the film based on the novel.

The three Lanzarote artists were "very supported" by the public and the institutional representation headed by the Minister of Culture of the Lanzarote Council, Alberto Aguiar, and his counterpart in Yaiza, the councilor Daniel Yaiza, a creative exhibition that mixes plastic arts and installations.

Sherezade Morales exhibits expressionist paintings with strong colors and strokes as transmitting elements of those feelings and emotions of that Mararía drawn in Arozarena's literature.

Macarena López shows us installations with a predominance of white that are a kind of cry that paradoxically represents the characteristic mutism of the great protagonist of the novel. Cintia Machín, in another of the rooms of the Casona, "transfers" part of her workshop in La Hoya to show us through figures and videos the creative process of the sculpture 'María la de Femés' that we can see in the surroundings of the town square.

The exhibition will remain open to the public until September 30, from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sundays and holidays closed.

The Casona de Femés is premiering cultural life after various improvement and maintenance actions carried out by the Yaiza City Council. The public representatives of Yaiza and the Council thank all the municipal workers who carried out the tasks in the house and the people who participated in the assembly of the exhibition 'Mararía or the beauty locked in time'.
