'El Campito de Argana Norte', first prize and audience award at the Roberto Pérez Toledo Express Short Film Festival

The Deputy Mayor of the Arrecife City Council, Echedey Eugenio, and the Councilor for Youth, Rosmen Quevedo, attended this Sunday at the Multicines Atlántida, the closing of the sixth edition of the Roberto Pérez Toledo Express Short Film Contest. 

This event, framed within the events organized on the occasion of the Lanzarote International Film Festival, which recovers the sponsorship of the Youth Area with Quevedo at the helm.

“It is a real pleasure to be able to support this event again, which not only honors the memory of filmmaker Roberto Pérez Toledo, but also promotes the creativity and talent of our young people,” said the mayor during the presentation of the first prize, which went to El Campito de Argana Norte by Tomás López, who also won the audience award.

The short films El Bar by Nacho Peña and Árido by Orlando Pérez that took the second and third prize respectively. The fourth prize was awarded to the short film Ketchup by Bryan Saltos and Como la Isla Misma by Isis Vázquez won the “Under 20” award, a recognition aimed at the young promises of the contest.

In this sixth edition, the contest has far exceeded its expectations with the participation of 26 works, in which neither producers nor distributors have intervened and with a single common link: all of them had to refer to Pulp Fiction, by Quentin Tarantino, considered a masterpiece of postmodern cinema.

The prizes ranged from 800 euros for the first prize to 150 euros for the fourth prize and a special Under 20, endowed with 250 euros. The jury included the professionals José Víctor Fuentes, María Sanz, David Pantaleón and Ana Sánchez Gijón.

“This event is a fundamental platform for young filmmakers to show their work, learn and grow in the audiovisual field. Our commitment is to continue promoting initiatives that enrich culture and art among the youth of Arrecife,” said Rosmen Quevedo, who insists that “we firmly believe that activities like this contribute to the integral development of our young people and to the cultural revitalization of our city.”

On the other hand, this Sunday the closing of the school short film contest also took place. Of the 23 works presented, the jury formed by Elena Tejera and Marina Carnicero, awarded the prize in the Primary Category to Distopía from CEIP Capellanía del Yábago; in the Secondary Category to the short film Soy tú from IES Blas Cabrera Felipe and in the Baccalaureate Category to the Pancho Lasso Art School with the short film Historias Grabadas.

Primary school students took home tickets to Aquapark Lanzarote as a prize and secondary school students tickets to the Rancho Texas theme park. According to what they have revealed in a press release, "both events have been, without a doubt, a resounding success in terms of participation with which the Lanzarote International Film Festival stands as a precursor of talent on the island."

This film event is organized by Fisme Producciones with the sponsorship of the Culture Area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Government of the Canary Islands, Canary Island Films, Canarian Institute of Cultural Development and Society for the External Promotion of Lanzarote through its product brand Lanzarote Film Commission, Promotur Turismo de Canarias, Arrecife City Council through the Departments of Youth and Culture, and Art, Culture and Tourism Centers. The companies Arrecife Gran Hotel, CICAR, Fundación Líneas Romero, Hercio collaborate with the Festival.
