From September to November, some of the archipelago's historic sites will host a program of free guided tours promoted by the Directorate General of Culture and Cultural Heritage of the Government of the Canary Islands. The initiative seeks to publicize the historical, architectural, and ethnographic value of these spaces, declared Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC) on the islands of Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, and Lanzarote through interpretive and accessible tours.
The twelve routes, led by the specialized company Lhorsa and guided by a historian, are designed as a weekend activity for all audiences with an approximate duration of two hours. Since capacity is limited to 25 people per session, it is essential to register through the website.
There are programmed routes in Gran Canaria through Santa María de Guía, Gáldar, Arucas, and Teror; in Tenerife, through La Orotava, Garachico, Guía de Isora, and San Juan de la Rambla; in La Palma, through San Andrés and Santa Cruz de La Palma; and in Lanzarote, through Teguise and Arrecife. The selection of municipalities responds to criteria of territorial relevance and diversity, encompassing both urban centers and rural environments to offer a comprehensive vision of the archipelago's historical evolution.
This program arises from the "Betancuria Declaration" of the I Meeting of Historic Sites of the Canary Islands, held in Fuerteventura on June 17 and 18, to revitalize and consolidate, through a regional strategy, these spaces as centers of identity, economic dynamism, social cohesion, and sustainable development.
The calendar kicks off this Saturday, September 5, at 10:00 AM with a visit to Santa María de Guía. Under the title "Illustrious Landscape of Insular History," the tour will reveal the most outstanding elements of this historic site in the north of Gran Canaria, where human stories intertwine with architectural, religious, and cultural reality.
