La Parranda Marinera de Buches has celebrated this Friday an institutional event to present commemorative diplomas to its members, an annual distinction with which the entity publicly recognizes the support and fundamental contribution of its members to the sustenance and development of its activities.
The event, which took place at the association's headquarters, in the Argana Baja neighborhood, brought together a large group of associates, collaborators, and members of the board of directors in an atmosphere of celebration and gratitude, while also serving to revive one of the parranda's characteristic events.
During the ceremony, the president of the association, Juan Antonio Machado Santana, dedicated a few words of gratitude to those present: "This diploma is a symbol of our deep gratitude. Associations are not just their acronyms, they are the people who support them day by day. The annual contribution of our members is the engine that allows us to continue with our projects and generate a positive impact in our environment and especially in the recovery of the maritime tradition of Arrecife," he said.
In this regard, Machado Santana referred to the Arrecife Fishermen's Guild, the origin of what the association is today. "That Guild was born with the will to create a space where the men of the sea and their families could attend to their needs, share their concerns, train, and celebrate, just as we do today more than a century later," he pointed out.
The presentation of these diplomas is part of the entity's transparency and loyalty initiatives, which seek to make visible the active role of its social base. Thanks to the contributions of the past year, the association has been able to launch key projects such as the recovery of traditional costumes of the Parranda Marinera de Buches, actively participate in celebrations linked to the San Ginés festivities, or guarantee the continuity of the traditional "danza con buches" characteristic of the group, among other actions.
During the event, congratulations were extended to those who have completed the 2025-2026 season in the different areas of the Parranda: music and dance, both in the maritime and carnival aspects. At the same time, a welcome was extended to those who are starting their journey as new members of the group, as well as to those who have collaborated and contributed to the association.
It is worth highlighting the special mention made to the dance and music directors, Rubén Valiente Umpiérrez and Abián Rodríguez, respectively, for the responsibility assumed this season and the progress achieved with the dance groups and the music corps “with a way of working based on commitment, better organization, respect, and good manners”.
Those who spoke during the event agreed in pointing out Parranda Marinera de Buches as one of the most unique expressions of Lanzarote's culture and wanted to show their gratitude for the treatment and welcome experienced within the entity. “We have succeeded, we have failed, we have changed our ways of working and we have learned during the process,” highlighted the artistic director and secretary of Los Buches, David Machado Gutiérrez.
After the presentation of the awards, attendees enjoyed a small refreshment where they could share impressions about the future of the entity and the next challenges for the new fiscal year, especially the preparation for Carnival, one of the island's most significant festivities and where Los Buches are prominent protagonists.
