Benito Cabrera and Cristina Ramos formed an exceptional duo last Wednesday night at the Santo Domingo convent in Teguise, where they presented their show "Hacia la Raíz." The public, which filled the allowed capacity, was able to enjoy the talent of two of the most important artists on the current musical scene of the Canary Islands.
In the show "Hacia la Raíz," Benito and Cristina surprised with a selection of original songs, respecting each of the lyrics of their creator where Benito's musical arrangements with the timple as the protagonist, supported by Tomás Fariña's guitar, Siddhartha Dorta's percussion, Javier Martín's bass and Cristina Ramos' powerful voice achieved the stated objective; the same songs sounded totally different. Among the chosen repertoire, "Gracias a la vida" by Violeta Parra, "El marido de la peluquera de Pedro Guerra", "Sobran las palabras" by Braulio García, "Amarraditos" by Pedro Belisario or "Memoria composición" by Benito Cabrera stood out, with content that speaks of the harsh reality suffered by a person with dementia and their families.
But without a doubt, the most emotional moment of the concert was when Cabrera was very mindful of so many people who are currently suffering from the war, where so many families live in exile and where children and adults are the most vulnerable. In honor of them, the chords of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" were played, masterfully performed by Cristina Ramos with an audience standing with the loudest applause of the night. This was the golden touch to the show "Hacia la Raíz", where Benito, Cristina and their band of musicians conquered everyone present.
Benito Cabrera is one of the greatest exponents of the timple in the islands and takes his melodies throughout the Canary Islands and a large part of the Peninsula, America and Europe. In addition, he performs at international festivals and gives concerts on countless stages.
As for Cristina Ramos, she is one of the most international Canary voices, characterized by fusing rock and opera with her voice. She became known in important talent contests, such as the first edition of "Got Talent España", and the seventh season of "La Voz de México", in which she was proclaimed the winner. Since then she has not stopped triumphing worldwide and taking to the stages around the world.
