The town of Arrieta enjoyed the main events of the Nuestra Señora del Carmen festivities last week with significant neighborhood participation in the playback, the traditional popular barbecue, and the land procession in honor of the patron saint of sailors, as the maritime procession could not be held due to adverse coastal phenomena.
The program brought together residents and visitors in an atmosphere of coexistence and celebration during the various events held throughout the week. The playback show Vuelven nuestros artistas (Our Artists Return) once again became one of the most fun events of the festivities, with performances by the town's children who filled the La Garita stage with creativity and music.
The popular barbecue brought together numerous families and groups of friends on a day marked by gathering and the participatory spirit that distinguishes these celebrations, strengthening ties among citizens and keeping the town's traditions alive. Additionally, attendees were later able to enjoy performances by different musical groups, as well as the traditional burning of El Costero.
Sunday marked the main day of the festivities with the celebration of the Eucharist and the subsequent land procession of Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Her image paraded through the streets of Arrieta accompanied by numerous faithful, although she could not be embarked for the maritime procession due to the rough sea conditions.
The mayor of Haría, Alfredo Villalba, highlighted that "the Carmen Festivities are an expression of our seafaring identity and an opportunity to continue strengthening coexistence among residents."
Villalba also emphasized the good atmosphere experienced during the different events and valued the work done for months to bring the celebrations to fruition. "Our thanks to all the people who participated, both on and off stage, making it possible for Arrieta to enjoy days full of tradition, culture, and participation," he expressed.
The Nuestra Señora del Carmen Festivities concluded with a performance by Báilame dance school and Hermanos Swing, putting the finishing touch on a week in which Arrieta once again became a meeting point for residents and visitors.
