The allegory One Thousand and One Nights will be the theme of the Arrecife Carnival 2027 after becoming the option most supported by citizens in the popular consultation launched by the Department of Festivals of the Arrecife City Council, led by the deputy mayor, Echedey Eugenio. The proposal obtained 32.06% of the support registered during the participatory process developed between April 20 and May 6.

The vote, carried out through the municipal citizen participation platform, once again reinforces an initiative that seeks to directly involve both carnival groups and neighbors in the construction of one of the most important and beloved festivals in the Lanzarote capital.

With this choice, the Arrecife Carnival 2027 will be filled with magic lamps, genies, sultans, oriental princesses, dancers, merchants, flying carpets, golden palaces, and creatures inspired by the most fantastic tales of the East, turning the city streets into an authentic universe of fantasy and color.

The election process began on March 25 with the opening of the period for carnival groups to submit their allegory proposals. Finally, six themes were selected to be submitted to popular vote: "One Thousand and One Nights," which obtained 32.06% of the support; "Sailor Carnival," with 23.21%; "Magical Creatures. Enchanted Universe," with 14.50%; "Marine World," with 12.82%; "Atlantis Steampunk. The Copper Reef," which reached 10.53%; and "Fairy Kingdoms," with 6.87%. All of them reflect the creativity and involvement of the city's carnival groups.

The deputy mayor and councilor for Festivals, Echedey Eugenio, has positively valued the citizen response, highlighting that “the Arrecife Carnival continues to demonstrate that it is a living festival, built by everyone, and where citizen participation plays a fundamental role”.

Eugenio has also pointed out that “from the Fiestas Area we continue to bet on a participatory model in which collectives and citizens not only enjoy the carnival, but are an active part of decisions as important as the choice of its allegory”.

The councilor also wanted to thank "the involvement and work of the carnival groups, who once again have contributed creativity, enthusiasm, and high-level proposals", emphasizing that "this previous work is fundamental to continue growing the Arrecife Carnival".

The survey was conducted using free and open-source software, through the LimeSurvey tool, configured to guarantee the anonymity of participation and prevent duplicate votes or abusive uses through automatic systems.
