Around 1,500 young people gathered this Sunday at the Youth Center of Arrecife to enjoy a day full of recreational and cultural activities on the occasion of the celebration of the second edition of Geek Pride Day, organized by the Youth Area of the City Council of Arrecife led by Rosmen Quevedo, in collaboration with various associations and groups such as Toshi Game, Shin Sekai, La Legión Perdida, Égida, Star Wars Gran Canaria and Lánzarte Asociación LGTBI+Canarias.
The event featured an extensive program designed for lovers of geek culture, characterized by technology, video games, science fiction, fantasy, manga, comics, and Japanese animation, with a gaming zone of video games and virtual reality, board game workshops by La Legión Perdida, and a TCG card tournament with games of One Piece, Pokémon, and Digimon. In addition, there was a softcombat exhibition and workshop by Égida Softcombat Lanzarote.
In this regard, Councilor Rosmen Quevedo expresses his satisfaction with the resounding success of this second edition of Geek Pride and its high participation, and highlights "the festive tone in which this day has been developed, with which, in addition to promoting social relations, from the Youth Area of the City Council of Arrecife we wanted to contribute to our young people developing their expressiveness and artistic creativity."
In fact, Japanese culture had a special presence throughout the day with painting (sumi-e), calligraphy, origami, furoshiki, and crafts with Hama beads workshops, organized in collaboration with Shin Sekai. There were also creative workshops such as comic creation, geeky tote bags, lightsabers, and magic wands.
One of the most outstanding moments was the visit of Star Wars characters from Gran Canaria, who interacted with the attendees. On the other hand, the association Lánzate carried out activities that combined the world of video games with the promotion of diversity.
There was also a live Mario Kart Live tournament and the popular K-Pop contest in the auditorium. The day culminated with a concert by Laura Pastor with a live band, accompanied by performances by MT Dance and Xtremep Up Dance Studio.
