The Court of Instruction number 3 of Arrecife has sentenced a British tourist of 35 years to four months in prison and 40 days of fine for assaulting two agents of the Civil Guard during a police intervention in a hotel in Costa Teguise.

The events date back to June 17, around 1:15 in the morning, at that time the convict was with "aggressive attitude and disturbing the order" of a hotel establishment on Avenida de Las Palmeras in Costa Teguise.

The agents were informed of a possible case of gender violence in the tourist accommodation. When they arrived at the scene, they invited the accused to calm down, but the man showed "a defiant attitude and refused to cooperate", according to the proven facts of the sentence to which La Voz has had access.

The now convicted showed "an absolutely hostile behavior", struggled "abruptly" with the agents and maintained "a defiant and aggressive attitude". The British tourist, from a town south of Manchester, punched one of the agents several times in the face, causing damage to his cheekbones, head and nose. In addition, he threw the two agents to the ground and fell with them.

After that, he struggled "abruptly and violently" with the civil guards and even inserted his fingers into the eyes of one of them. The Court emphasizes that he "maintained a highly aggressive behavior", that he broke a watch of one of them and destroyed a transmitter of the General Directorate itself. After that, he had to be reduced by the agents.

Both agents suffered several injuries to the face and different parts of the body during the police intervention.

Therefore, he has been sentenced to four months in prison for the crime of attack and 40 days of fine, with a fee of six euros per day, for the two minor crimes of injuries, one for each agent assaulted.

In addition, he must compensate with 968.59 euros to one of the agents for the injuries suffered and with 709.17 euros to another of them, as well as 129 euros more for the broken watch. He will also have to pay the 269 euros that the Airbus transmitter costs to the General Directorate of the Civil Guard.

The Instruction body has agreed that he also pay the procedural costs and that the prison sentence is not fulfilled with the condition that he does not commit a crime in the following two years and that he pays the civil liabilities to which he has been sentenced.
