The First Chamber of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas will try next week in Arrecife a defendant for a crime of assault for allegedly assaulting another man, who lost the vision in one eye due to the beating.
The events took place in April 2023, when the alleged aggressor was in the vicinity of a shopping center in Playa Blanca and, according to the indictment, assaulted the victim without a word and without prior provocation.
Specifically, he landed a punch to the left eye, various kicks to the face and body once the assaulted fell to the ground. Because of this, the victim suffered a perforation in the left eye and other wounds that required surgery and stitches.
In total, the victim needed thirty days to recover from the aggression. Furthermore, he presents a permanent loss of vision in this eye and an aesthetic damage due to having a two-centimeter scar.
The Prosecutor's Office accuses him of a crime of injury due to loss or uselessness of a main organ and requests for the accused nine years in prison and special disqualification for the right to passive suffrage during the time of the sentence, as well as the payment of costs.
Likewise, the Public Prosecutor's Office also requests that he compensate the victim with €1,856.70 for the time it took for their injuries to heal, as well as another €42,771.19 for the after-effects suffered.
