The Second Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas will try a man next Wednesday in Gran Canaria accused of a crime against public health for being caught leaving the Port of Arrecife with several boxes of onions and potatoes under which he allegedly hid drugs.
The events date back to June 27, 2024, when the accused B.I.R.M. was caught by the police carrying several boxes of vegetables and tubers inside a car that he had picked up at a warehouse of a transport company.
The Public Prosecutor's Office assures that inside the vehicle he was carrying 430 tablets of cannabis resin, with a total of 43 kilos. In addition, there were eight blocks of cocaine, with a total of eight kilos. He also had 99 grams of MDMA and seven wraps of cocaine. The substance was worth around 372,171 euros on the illicit market.
The detainee has been in provisional prison since June 30, 2024, for these events. Thus, the Public Prosecutor's Office requests eight years in prison, special disqualification for the duration of the sentence, and a fine of 800 euros.
