The Local Police of Arrecife managed to arrest the perpetrator of the vehicle fire and discovered the connection to a case of gender violence. The investigation and arrest, carried out a week ago in the same area of the accident involving these two vehicles, has allowed the Justice system to order the preventive imprisonment in Lanzarote of the perpetrator of these coercions against his wife, and responsible for the fire that affected two vehicles, one of them his wife's.
Arrecife Local Police officers arrested the alleged perpetrator of the arson of two vehicles after discovering that the events were related to a case of gender violence, as reported by the Arrecife Local Police this past weekend.
The fire in these cars occurred recently on a central street in a neighborhood of the capital of Lanzarote, early in the morning. When the police officers from Arrecife arrived, they observed that the fire had already been extinguished by personnel from the Security and Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote, and that where the combustion had started, there were remains of combustible material that, presumably, was used to spread the fire, affecting two vehicles, so there was clear evidence of causing damage.
As a result of the initial investigations and thanks to citizen collaboration and in collaboration with the UFAM of the National Police Corps, it was determined that the events were directly related to a concurrence of crimes related to gender violence, with the perpetrator of the events being located an hour later by the Local Police of Arrecife, one kilometer away from the scene.
The 35-year-old man was placed in provisional detention after a series of assaults, threats, and coercion against his wife. The Family and Women's Care Unit (UFAM) of Arrecife activated the Viogén system, designed to protect victims of gender violence.
