The coach arrested in Lanzarote gained the trust of minors and then asked them for sexual photos

For the moment, two minors have declared having suffered sexual assault by this coach, while the National Police located another eight victims of sexual harassment after analyzing their devices

The football coach arrested in Lanzarote.

R.G., the 34-year-old grassroots football coach accused of sexually assaulting minors in Lanzarote, was one of the most veteran coaches of a well-known club on the island. He was usually in charge of the club's youth categories and instructed minors between 10 and 13 years old.

The accused, in provisional prison since last April 11, had been removed from the team in November after his judicial situation became known in the press after being accused of sexually harassing a minor he was coaching through social networks. Then, he was arrested by the National Police and a court in Arrecife agreed to his provisional release. In that first arrest, the Court also authorized the search of his house, where they seized computer equipment, with several computers and mobile phones

The National Police arrested him for the second time this April, five months later, after setting up a device to locate him. On this occasion, the Investigating Court number 2, on duty at the time of the events, decreed his immediate imprisonment accused of up to three types of crimes against the sexual indemnity of children and adolescents. Among them, sexual assault of a minor under 16 years of age, corruption of minors and exhibitionism and sexual provocation of minors.

His alleged 'modus operandi'

According to the National Police, the coach allegedly always used the same modus operandi: he gained the trust of the minors, and then sent them and asked them through social networks to send him sexual material. He would also have asked them to have physical encounters through this means. For the moment, two minors have declared having suffered sexual assault by this coach.

The Family and Women's Care Unit (UFAM) of the National Police, was in charge of dumping and analyzing the computers and mobile phones seized from the coach. In this analysis they were able to identify and locate another eight minor victims, who were trained by R.G. These minors also "have confirmed and related the habitual practices used by the detainee", according to the Police.

The newspaper La Provincia, reveals that R.G. allegedly gave gifts to the victims, took them to eat and even allegedly stayed at their house. After that, he transferred them to his family's home. According to this same newspaper, he was involved in groups of dissemination and consumption of child pornography.
