The First Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas has sentenced this Wednesday, May 28, J.L.B.D. for drug trafficking in the Altavista neighborhood, in Arrecife.

The events date back to April 7, 2020 when the convicted man was caught by the National Police when he was allegedly going to sell six packages of cocaine at 12:00 in the morning, in the middle of the coronavirus lockdown.

In total, J.L.B.D. was carrying four grams of cocaine, with a value of 252 euros in the illicit market. In addition, 30 euros in small bills were seized from him.

The defense and the Prosecutor's Office have reached an agreement by which the convicted man will go from serving five and a half years in prison to two years, who was already convicted in 2015 for drug trafficking, as well as special disqualification for the right to passive suffrage during the time of the sentence and the payment of a fine of 756.7 euros. In case of non-payment, five more days of prison would be added.

In this case, there has been a mitigating factor in the sentence for undue delays, since the case was paralyzed on several occasions between the years 2020, 2022 and 2024.

In addition, the convicted man, a native of Guinea Bissau, must serve the sentence completely in Spain to "ensure the defense of the legal order" and "restore confidence in the validity of the infringed regulations".

Likewise, the Public Prosecutor's Office also establishes that the convicted man be expelled from the national territory when he accesses the third degree or is granted parole. Similarly, he is prohibited from returning to Spain in five years from the date on which he is expelled and it is agreed to file any open procedure to obtain a work or residence permit in the country.
