A professor faces six years in prison for sexually assaulting a thirteen-year-old student in Lanzarote

The Prosecutor's Office requests that he be disqualified from practicing any profession or trade that involves "regular and direct" contact with minors for three years

The Provincial Court of Las Palmas will try next week a teacher from the Compulsory Education Center (CEO) of Playa Blanca, in Yaiza, who maintained a romantic relationship with an underage student and sexually assaulted her. 

The Prosecutor's Office accuses adult J.M.M. of taking advantage of his position of superiority, by being the victim's teacher, to allegedly maintain a romantic relationship with her between April 2023 and December 2024. 

The Public Prosecutor's Office assures that the accused allegedly kissed her and touched her buttocks over her clothes. Thus, it classifies the events as a crime of sexual abuse of a minor under sixteen years old, since the girl was thirteen years old. 

The professor faces six years in prison for the aggravating circumstance of being their teacher and to special disqualification from exercising the right to passive suffrage during the tiempod e the sentence. Furthermore, the Prosecutor's Office requests that he be disqualified from exercising any profession or trade that involves "regular and direct" contact with minors, whether or not remunerated, for three years when the prison sentence concludes. 

Likewise, requests that he be prohibited from approaching and communicating with the victim and with those relatives who are determined by the Court at less than 500 meters, that he also cannot approach her home, place of work or any other place for five years. 

If convicted, the Public Prosecutor's Office requests that he also be placed on supervised release for another five years and reminds of the obligation to participate in sexual education programs. 

The Prosecutor's Office adds the payment of civil liability and requests that it compensate the minor with 6,000 euros for moral damages.
