'El Melilla', a repeat offender for robberies in Lanzarote, faces six years in prison in Fuerteventura

The defendant has three prior convictions for burglaries of homes or businesses on the island of volcanoes

The First Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas tried L.B.A.L. this Tuesday in Gran Canaria, a man with multiple convictions for robbery in occupied homes and businesses open to the public in Lanzarote, known as El Melilla for allegedly robbing a hotel in Fuerteventura.

*El Melilla* has three previous convictions for burglaries in homes or businesses in Lanzarote. Specifically, he has accumulated up to four years in prison, of which at least nine months are pending.According to the Public Prosecutor's indictment, *El Melilla* allegedly broke into a hotel room in Caleta de Fuste in the early hours of May 12, 2025. In this room, he allegedly stole two wallets from a handbag that was on the hotel room's terrace. From these wallets, he allegedly stole a total of 270 euros and 250 pounds.After taking them, the accused allegedly assaulted a tourist couple staying at the accommodation. When the husband heard a noise inside the room, he got out of bed and grabbed the accused. The Public Prosecutor's Office accuses L.B.A.L. of hitting the victim in the face and fleeing the scene with the stolen money.The accused has been in provisional prison since then. The Public Prosecutor's Office classifies the events as a crime of robbery with violence and intimidation in an inhabited dwelling, with the aggravating factor of being a repeat offender. Therefore, it requests six years of imprisonment for him, with special disqualification for the duration of the sentence.At the same time, it requests that he compensate one of the victims for the amount of money stolen, and that he bear the court costs.
