The jury has convicted Manuel Esteban Montoro of stabbing to death a 40-year-old man in the south of Lanzarote in the summer of 2023. As reported by the newspaper La Provincia, the self-confessed perpetrator of the events allegedly committed the murder in the midst of "a nervous breakdown," hours after the victim had stolen his mobile phone.

The events took place at 8:30 PM on the night of July 25, 2023 in a cafeteria on Correillo street, in the tourist town of Yaiza.

After a new argument, Manuel Esteban Montoro inflicted up to three stab wounds on the victim. The second was the one that ended his life after piercing his heart with a serrated knife, according to the experts who testified at the hearing.

Despite Manuel Esteban Montoro confessing the facts on the first day of the trial, both the Prosecutor's Office and the popular prosecution, led by the deceased's mother, maintained their request for thirteen years in prison for Manuel Esteban for taking a man's life in the middle of the street. At the time, both emphasized that there is no justification for ending another person's life
