He faces ten years in prison for assaulting a man with a bottle, leaving him blind in one eye

The assaulted person suffered the loss of vision in the affected eye, affecting his vision "irreversibly", according to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

The Sixth Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas will judge next week in Lanzarote a defendant accused of assaulting with a glass bottle in the eye  another man in a shopping center in Playa Blanca, in the municipality of Yaiza.

The Prosecutor's Office requests ten years in prison for a defendant with a criminal record for theft. The events date back to the early morning of June 22, 2024, when the defendant allegedly struck the victim twice with a glass bottle, causing him several injuries to his right eye, without any prior argument between them.

The victim had to be attended by medical personnel, as well as undergo surgical treatment, to suture several wounds on her face, in addition to being operated on under general anesthesia for the eye. The assaulted person suffered the loss of vision in the affected eye, affecting his vision "irreversibly", according to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

In its indictment, it states that the accused suffered 126 days of moderate loss of life, enduring a cosmetic injury, with a two-centimeter scar and another contiguous one of 1.5, as well as a third scar of 1.5. To which is added the loss of vision in the right eye. The accused has been in provisional prison since July 2024.

The Prosecutor's Office requests ten years in prison, special disqualification for passive suffrage during the sentence and the payment of costs. If convicted, the defendant must compensate the victim with 8,095 euros for the time it took to heal from the injuries and another 56,046 for the after-effects.
