The Sixth Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas will judge next January 16 in Gran Canaria two people accused of running a boat that arrived in Lanzarote in the summer of 2022.

The indictment of the Prosecutor's Office points to the defendants S.E.O. and T.J. for charging "various amounts of money" to at least two migrants to transfer them to the Canary coasts. Thus, the boat departed from Morocco on August 20, 2022 at 9:00 p.m., with 44 migrants on board.

The Public Prosecutor's Office points out that the aforementioned vessel "lacked any security system", neither life jackets, nor food, nor flares.

Therefore, the Public Prosecutor considers that it is a crime against the rights of foreign citizens and asks for eight years in prison for both, special disqualification for the right to passive suffrage during the time of the sentence and payment of costs.
