The Sixth Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas is scheduled to try J.M.P.O. on December 10, accused of a crime against public health for drug trafficking in the Canary Islands.
The accused already has a criminal record, as he was convicted in Lanzarote in a final judgment in September 2020 for a crime of breach of sentence to a penalty of 12 months' fine by the Court of First Instance Number 2 of Arrecife, a penalty pending fulfillment.
According to the Public Prosecutor's brief, the events date back to September 28, 2024, when J.M.P.O. was intercepted at the Muelle Grande of the Port of La Luz and Las Palmas as he was about to board a ferry bound for Fuerteventura, **carrying 440.28 grams of cocaine** with an average purity of 75.13%.
This substance he was transporting was intended to be distributed to third parties on the island of Fuerteventura. The seized drug had a market value of 14,500 euros.
For this crime against public health, the Prosecutor's Office is requesting a prison sentence of six years and a fine of 30,000 euros for the accused. Also, special disqualification from the right to passive suffrage for the duration of the sentence.
