Three years in prison and a fine of 10,635 euros. That is the penalty accepted by a drug dealer who was arrested in Arrecife last October, and who has now reached an agreement with the Prosecutor's Office.
The trial is scheduled for next week, before the First Section of the Provincial Court, but the Public Prosecutor's Office has requested that the hearing be held only to ratify this agreement, for which a reduction in the requested sentence has been applied.
The arrest occurred at approximately 9:40 a.m. on October 11, when the accused was driving in the vicinity of Avenida de los Geranios in Arrecife. At that time, a National Police patrol saw that he was talking on his cell phone and signaled him to stop, and it was then that the agents found 12 bags of heroin in his pockets and another 18 in the armrest of the driver's door, in addition to 127 euros in cash.
The agents then requested judicial authorization to search his home, located in Playa Honda, where they found several more bags and wrappers with heroin, which in total weighed more than half a kilo.
Specifically, there were 565.61 grams, which, according to the Prosecutor's Office's indictment, would have had a market value of more than 10,000 euros.
In addition, 8,247 euros in cash, 781 grams of cutting substance and two precision scales, as well as two computers that were also seized and three passports from Guinea Bissau, were also found in the house.
After the police operation, the Investigating Court Number 4 of Arrecife ordered his admission to provisional prison, where he has remained until now, awaiting trial.
The Prosecutor's Office considers him responsible for a crime against public health, in its form of substances that cause serious damage to health, and the accused has agreed to confess, so the hearing will not be held. Thus, once the agreement is ratified before the Court, the judgment will be handed down in accordance with the agreed penalty.
Regarding the fine, in case of non-payment it is established that he must serve another two months in prison. In addition, the Prosecutor's Office also requests that the drugs, money and all the effects seized by the Police be definitively confiscated.
