5 defendants accused of introducing 23 bundles of hashish worth one million euros to the island to stand trial

The Sixth Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas will try next Tuesday five men, four Spaniards and one German, accused of "a drug trafficking crime" that "does not cause serious damage to health". According to the prosecutor's indictment, the defendants "disembarked and transferred" 23 bales of hashish, weighing 683.79 kilos, which "in the illicit market" would have reached a value of more than 1,020,000 euros. All this with the final intention of "distributing this substance among third parties on the island of Lanzarote, with total disregard for public health".

For S.H.M, the Prosecutor's Office requests a sentence of 6 and a half years in prison and the payment of a fine of more than 3,062,695 euros. For I.H.H., M.G.H., G.H.M. and O.M.R. it requests a sentence of 5 and a half years in prison and the payment of a fine worth 3,062,695 euros. In the first of the cases, the prosecutor requests one more year of prison for "the aggravating circumstance of recidivism"

According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the events occurred after half past one in the morning on June 8, 2014, when the defendants S:H.M. and I.H.H. went, "on board a zodiac-type boat" to the area "known as Robayna-Haría pool, carrying 23 bales of hashish".

Transfer of the drug

On the shore, according to the indictment, M.G.K., O.M.R. and G.H.M. were waiting for them, who, in the company of another person who has not been identified, loaded the bales into a Nissan Primastar van, owned by one of them. Two of the accused got on board the shuttle vehicle, a Kia Prego van, and followed by the other van carrying the drug, started the march along the road that leads from Mala to Arrieta.

The bales "were seized" when the van in which they were carrying them "was abandoned" on a dirt road near the roundabout that connects the Teguise-San Bartolomé road with the LZ 402 road.
