At the National University of Distance Education (UNED) campus in Lanzarote, there are a total of 448 students enrolled in more than 30 degree programs, of which 127 chose Psychology, 26% of the total, according to data provided by the Lanzarote Data Center.
Interest in the career has experienced a major boom since the pandemic as mental health care becomes normalized and the number of positions in this specialty in public services expands.
Before 2019, the psychology degree program in Lanzarote had a number of enrolled students very similar to that of Law, around 80 students. At the same time, the law degree program has been gradually losing students and, despite remaining second, has 66 enrolled students for the current academic year.
Close behind are Early Childhood Education with 60 enrolled students, almost double the number recorded just three years ago, and Business Administration and Management with 25 students, a decrease from over 40 in 2022.
Next are the degrees in Social Work and Criminology with 22 and 21 enrolled students, respectively. The former remains the same, while the latter has fallen from the 38 it had three years ago.
With ten or more students enrolled are the degrees of Tourism (14), Geography and History (13), Pedagogy (12), Philosophy (11), English Studies (11), and Legal and Public Administration Sciences (10).
With five or more students enrolled are Art History (9), Environmental Sciences (8), Political Science and Administration (7), Computer Engineering (6), Mathematics (5), and Economics (5).
