The Regenerating Lanzarote and La Graciosa project will launch during the coming months a free training program titled “Introduction to regenerative agriculture”, aimed at people interested in improving their crops through practices adapted to the arid climate of the island.

The initiative aims to promote the transition towards more sustainable agricultural models, capable of improving soil fertility, reducing dependence on external inputs, and strengthening crop resilience against local climatic conditions. It is one of the proposals from non-profit organizations subsidized with funds from the Biosphere Reserve of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, which allows the activities to be free of charge.

The project will take place between the months of March and June 2026 through three theoretical-practical workshops lasting three hours, which will be held in different farms distributed throughout the seven municipalities of the island. The sessions will combine technical training with practical work in the field, allowing participants to learn directly in real conditions.

During the training itinerary, three blocks will be addressed: Soils in balance, with the practical elaboration of a bocashi pile to improve soil fertility; plant nutrition, through the preparation of different biols and natural bio-inputs, and regenerative management of sand-covered land, with the application of practices aimed at improving the stability and productivity of crops.

In addition to technical training, the program includes activities of community production of fertilizers and mineral broths and the recovery of a prickly pear farm located in Mala, where they will be applied in a way The training is preferably aimed at people with their own or community gardens, as well as farmers who wish to learn about the practices already applied by other producers in Lanzarote to improve their farms. The proposal has 25 places per municipality.

Upon completing the training itinerary, participating individuals will receive the Regenerative Agent Card, with the aim of creating a community of trained individuals committed to the regeneration of the island territory.
