To connect classrooms with laboratories, the University of La Laguna, through its Unit for Scientific and Innovation Culture (Cienci@ULL) and with the collaboration of the Aula Cultural Radio Campus ULL, has launched an audiovisual podcast that seeks to give a face, voice, and closeness to the teaching and research staff of the archipelago.
The origin of this project lies in the latest data from the pioneering MUCICA study — part of the Woman and Girl in Science and Innovation Program promoted by the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI) — which warns of the existence, on the part of students, of scarce close references in the field of research as a weakness in the current university ecosystem.
To reverse this situation and awaken new professional and scientific vocations, “Conecta Cienci@ULL” serves as a key outreach tool that offers an accessible, inspiring, and close vision of the science generated at the university itself.
The first season of the radio-podcast, which consists of twelve episodes, began its broadcast in May with a bi-weekly periodicity every Friday. Under the direction of Luis Javier Capote Pérez, the program is first broadcast on the University of La Laguna's station, Radio Campus (available on its iVoox and YouTube channels). Subsequently, each episode is also hosted on the official Cienci@ULL YouTube channel to facilitate access for the entire university community and the general public.
A transversal look at all ULL science
To showcase the diversity and talent of local R&D&I, this season's interviews cover the main areas of knowledge with their protagonists. Energy, Biodiversity and Environment: Features the participation of Penélope Cruzado Caballero (Paleontology), José Carlos Hernández Pérez (Zoology), and Noelia Cruz Pérez (Agricultural and Forest Engineering).
Science and Technology: The program gives a voice to Laura Díaz Rodríguez (Chemical Engineering), Jorge Méndez Ramos (Professor of Physics), and Silvia Alayón Miranda (Computer and Systems Engineering).
Biomedicine and Health: Full professors Ángel Acebes Vindel (Physiology) and Alberto Domínguez Rodríguez (Medicine) share their experience.
Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts: The season is completed with meetings with Cristo Manuel Hernández Gómez (History and Prehistory), Noemí Peña Sánchez (Fine Arts) and Gloria Pilar Rojas Rivero (Professor of Labor Law).
With this commitment to digital and audiovisual formats, the aim is for scientific knowledge to transcend academic walls, providing students with the necessary references to inspire the next generations of professionals and scientists from the islands.
