The Department of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports, directed by Poli Suárez, expands for the next academic year the Vocational Training offer in Lanzarote with the incorporation of new training cycles, double degrees and specialization courses in different professional families.
This update is part of the new island map of VET, aimed at adjusting the educational offer to the needs of the productive fabric and to facilitate access to training on all islands.
In this context, the planned expansion in Lanzarote responds to the global growth strategy of Vocational Training in Canarias, which aims to exceed 52,000 students enrolled next academic year thanks to the increase in places, the diversification of teachings and the implementation of new training modalities such as the boost to virtual education.
Among the novelties incorporated in Lanzarote, the Vocational Training offer is expanded in the Food Industries family with the training cycle of intermediate level in Olive Oils and Wines. In the health field, the training cycle of higher level in Oral Hygiene is incorporated, reinforcing the presence of teachings linked to socio-health services on the island.
In the Administration and Management family, the double degree in Administration and Finance and Executive Assistance is introduced, while in Commerce and Marketing two new combined itineraries are added: Sales Management and Commercial Spaces and Marketing and Advertising, as well as Transport and Logistics and International Trade, expanding the training options in the business and logistics field.
The Hospitality and Tourism family incorporates new double degrees oriented towards one of the key sectors of the island economy, such as Culinary Management and Restaurant Services Management, as well as Tourist Guide, Information and Assistance and Travel Agencies and Event Management.
For its part, in Informatics and Communications, the dual degree in Web Application Development and Multiplatform Application Development is implemented, strengthening training in digital and technological skills.
The offer, which can be consulted through the new website fpcanarias.org, is completed with new specialization and inclusive training options, such as the Adapted Vocational Training (FP Adaptada) training itinerary in Hospitality and Tourism, with the program of Basic floor operations in accommodations, as well as the specialization course in Artisan Bakery and Pastry.
Alignment with the Lanzarotean economy
The update of the training offer in Lanzarote allows incorporating teachings aligned with key sectors of its economy, such as tourism, commerce, logistics, food processing or health services. This diversification facilitates that students can train on the island itself in areas with high employability, reducing the need for displacement and favoring population retention.
The expansion of the offer in Lanzarote is part of the impulse to the new model of Vocational Training that the area coordinated by Francisco Rodríguez Machado develops, based on the modernization of the teachings, the flexibility of itineraries and the incorporation of new modalities, such as virtual training or double degrees.
Furthermore, Vocational Training in the Canary Islands relies on a model increasingly connected with the productive environment, with more than 5,000 companies collaborating in the training of students and in their access to the labor market, within the progressive implementation of Dual Vocational Training.
This sustained growth has allowed Vocational Training in the Canary Islands to exceed 47,600 students enrolled in the current academic year and continue to increase its attractiveness as a training path oriented towards employment and professional qualification. With the new planned offer, the system continues to advance towards more accessible training connected with the real opportunities of the labor market of each island.
