The Department of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture of the Regional Executive has published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands the call for scholarships for the 2025/2026 academic year, aimed at undergraduate and master's students who are studying official university studies in public centers, both inside and outside the archipelago.

With an allocation of 10,500,000 euros, this measure reinforces public policies that guarantee access to higher education under conditions of equity.

The grants cover expenses related to tuition, residence, transportation, academic performance and disability. The tuition scholarship covers the total amount of registered credits; the fixed amount linked to income is 1,700 euros; the residence grant amounts to 2,700 euros; the scholarships for academic excellence range between 75 and 200 euros, and the transportation grants between 442 and 937 euros. In the case of students with disabilities, the grants range between 600 and 3,000 euros.

The deadline for submitting applications will be one month from today, August 11, 2025. This call anticipates the deadlines compared to previous courses, favoring academic planning and improving management times.

Among the most relevant novelties is the possibility of applying for a scholarship after a change of degree studies, provided that you have not remained more than two years in the previous degree. This measure recognizes the right of students to modify their academic itinerary without losing access to aid, provided that the established requirements are met. "Not all trajectories are completed without adjustments and this call contemplates that reality without unfair penalties," said the Minister of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture, Migdalia Machín.

A new access criterion is also incorporated for those who study specialties with a different study plan in public universities outside their island of residence, even if the degree is implemented on it. This novelty allows you to apply for the scholarship when the training orientation or the specific offer is only available in another center, thus responding to the real academic diversity within the university system.

These improvements have been incorporated after a technical review process promoted by the General Directorate of Universities and Research, which detected the need to update a call that had not been modified in depth.

Machín has stressed that the call responds to a public policy aimed at effectively addressing the different situations of students. "Our goal is to ensure that academic decisions are not conditioned by the place of residence or by economic barriers, and that scholarships accompany the training processes with justice and coherence."
