Almost one in four homes in the south of Lanzarote is dedicated to tourist rentals. There are only four other municipalities in the Canary Islands that exceed 10%, according to data included in the draft Law on the regulation of the tourist use of homes that the Government of the Canary Islands has just published.
The Lanzarote municipality of Yaiza has 22% of its housing stock dedicated to vacation rentals, the highest percentage among all the municipalities in the Canary Islands.
Next is the majorero municipality of La Oliva, where 21.5% of its housing stock is dedicated to this use. In third place, the Tenerife municipality of Adeje with 13.3%.
The municipalities of San Bartolomé de Tirajana in Gran Canaria (10.6%), and Hermigua in La Gomera (10.72%) also exceed 10%.
The number of places in Lanzarote is equivalent to 21% of its population
By islands, the number of places in vacation homes is equivalent to 22.5% of the population in Fuerteventura and 21.2% in Lanzarote.
Next are the islands of La Gomera (16.68%) and El Hierro (16.10%), followed by Tenerife, whose number of places in vacation homes is equivalent to 9.7% of its population.
The islands with the lowest number of places in comparison with their population are La Palma (7.3%) and Gran Canaria (6.4%).
