Yaiza, among the ten municipalities with the highest tourist saturation in Spain

A travel platform publishes a list with the most saturated municipalities in the country, which it defines as "on the verge of collapse" so that its users avoid them this summer

Papagayo Beach, in the municipality of Yaiza

The municipality of Yaiza received nearly 700,000 tourists in 2023, which is equivalent to a rate of 43.5 tourists per inhabitant, according to a study published by the tourist accommodation platform Holidu, which has published a list to avoid the municipalities "on the verge of collapse" this summer among the more than 8,100 municipalities in the country.

With these figures, Yaiza is the eighth most touristically saturated municipality in the country. The other two most touristy municipalities of Lanzarote, Tías (24.3 tourists per inhabitant) and Teguise (17.14) occupy positions 19 and 23, among the municipalities with the highest tourist pressure in Spain.

It should be noted that the study does not take into account the fact that tourism in the Canary Islands is spread throughout the year, unlike the vast majority of municipalities in the peninsula and Balearic Islands, where visitors are concentrated in summer

In number one position is the municipality of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, on the island of Mallorca, where they receive 73.1 tourists per inhabitant per year.

Next, in number two, is Sallent de Gállego, a municipality in the Aragonese Pyrenees that receives 51.8 tourists for every local citizen each year.

The city of Peñíscola in the province of Castellón adds a total of 51.6 tourists per resident each year, thus occupying the third position among the municipalities with the highest tourist overcrowding in the country.

The fourth municipality with the most tourists per inhabitant is Naut Arán, in the Catalan Pyrenees, where 49.4 tourists per resident arrive each year.

The fifth municipality with the highest saturation is also Catalan, in this case on the coast of Tarragona. This is Salou, which receives 48.6 visitors per inhabitant each year.

The most saturated municipality in the Canary Islands is Pájara, which with a ratio of 48 tourists per resident occupies the sixth position in Spain.

With 46.5 visitors per inhabitant, the municipality of Albarracín, in Teruel, occupies the seventh place.

After Yaiza, in ninth and tenth place are Capdepera in Mallorca and Benasque in Huesca, which receive 39.3 and 36.7 tourists per inhabitant respectively.
