The Cabildo of Lanzarote has reported a notable increase in tourist spending during their stay on the island. "This trend confirms that the Cabildo's efforts to qualify the market are yielding positive results, consolidating the island as a quality destination."
In particular, data from ISTAC (Canary Islands Institute of Statistics) reveal that total tourist spending in the first half of the year has increased by 12.61%, reflecting a greater economic impact on the island. In addition, although there has been a decrease in the number of national tourists, their spending has also increased by 4.67%, underscoring the qualification of the market in this segment.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and head of Tourism, Oswaldo Betancort, has valued these data as a "reflection of the success of the policies implemented." "The increase in tourist spending demonstrates that we are achieving our goal of qualifying the market.
It is not just about attracting more tourists, but about attracting those who value the differentiated and quality offer that Lanzarote has to offer. This is a fundamental step in our strategy to ensure sustainable and balanced tourism," Betancort said.
For his part, Héctor Fernández, CEO of SPEL Turismo-Lanzarote, also commented on the official tourism data for July, highlighting the stability that has been observed in tourist arrivals. "There is stability compared to last summer; the data for July of this year are practically the same as those for July of last year, and this reflects that, despite the criticisms about a supposed uncontrolled growth, the numbers demonstrate a quantitative neutrality that indicates that the destination is not experiencing an exponential saturation," Fernández said.
Despite a small decrease of 0.8% compared to July 2023, Fernández stressed that "the summer is being very positive to date, with strong growth in markets such as the British, Dutch, and others, although it is true that we have seen a significant decrease in national tourism, the reason for which we are investigating."
In short, the ISTAC data support these statements, showing an increase in tourist spending, which translates into a stronger and more beneficial economic impact for the island, as a result of the investment and management of the accommodation establishments that have achieved a price increase.
Lanzarote continues to consolidate itself as a destination that bets on quality over quantity, reinforcing its position in the international tourism market and guaranteeing sustainable development in the long term.
